Acupuncture

What Is Acupuncture?

According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine:
“Acupuncture is a technique in which practitioners stimulate specific points on the body—most often by inserting thin needles through the skin. It is one of the practices used in traditional Chinese medicine.”

Why Use Acupuncture?

Acupuncture has been used effectively to treat chronic pain and other health care issues for thousands of years in China.  It may seem strange and mysterious to some people, acupuncture treatment has been tested for thousands of years and continues to be validated today.

Acupuncture detoxification is based on the theory that the body’s natural opioid is retained by drugs, causing addicts have to seek more opioid from narcotics. Through acupuncture on certain acupoints, the body is stimulated to release more opioid which in turn control the pains and help addicts kick drug habits (China Daily 06/26/2003 page3).

How does acupuncture work

Acupuncturists insert very fine needles into different parts of your body to stimulate acupuncture points or meridians. Because the needles are so tiny, you are virtually impossible to feel. The needles do not inject any substance into your body. Sometime, acupuncturists may apply electrical stimulation or cupping as forms of heat therapy. In some cases, acupuncturists may use acupressure so that physical pressure is applied by hand or elbow to clear blockages in the acupuncture points.

Benefits of Acupuncture
Acupuncture may help reduce pain that is often chronic, such as:

  • headaches
  • low-back pain
  • neck pain
  • osteoarthritis/knee pain
  • and other conditions to be consulted with the practitioner

Acupuncture is a natural way to heal or reduce such pain. Acupuncture acts a catalyst, helping the body create its own natural pain relievers and regenerative abilities without the undesirable side effects of prescription medications.

Acupuncture provides alternative healing treatments beyond your regular doctor’s care. Acupuncture can reduce all kinds of pains such as

  • Back & Shoulder pain
  • Tennis elbow
  • Sprains or Strains
  • Headaches / Migraine
  • Sciatic Neuralgia
  • Phantom limb pain
  • Shingles
  • Facial paralysis
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Rheumatic arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Fatigue
  • Cold & Flu
  • Health Maintenance

Dr. Tran’s office is really nice and small. She is so kind and knowledgeable and has such a calming presence. She cured my cervicogenic headaches after going through PT and doctors. Anytime I have neck/back pain she works miracles. I wish I could give her more stars.

Highly recommend! I found Dr. Tan by a quick google search, I called to make an appointment and she had appointments that fit my schedule. The location is right off of Foothills and Vineyard (near Denio’s). She is located in building B, suite 10 (downstairs). Parking was easy. The paperwork for first time patients was a breeze, I was very excited to know that this place accepts Kaiser coverage! My first session I was a bit nervous, but Dr. Tan is very attentive to your concerns. I have experienced headaches and migraines for over 15 years and after just 1 session, I have felt such an improvement. I went for my second visit yesterday and had the same experience. The environment Dr. Tan has created is very calming. I was nervous about acupuncture in general, but there is no pain.

I was skeptical at first about acupuncture but I’ve become a convert thanks to Dr. Tan. She’s knowledgeable and does everything she can to make you feel comfortable. After a few sessions my neck and shoulder pain has been greatly reduced.

This was my first experience with acupuncture, I have already scheduled my return visit! Dr. Tran is the sweetest, the office is a cozy space just off the side off foothills/vineyard. I am so happy I found her! I had injured my back and found instant results with mobility. I am making appointments for my husband and mom next.

Me and my wife have been going to Dr. Tan for only a few sessions and we both feel much better. It’s amazing

I have been dealing with stress, anxiety, and a really bad case of plantar fasciitis . I’ve been to my doctor countless times and the only thing they prescribe is strong pain medicine that makes my stomach really upset.

My wife had a really bad knee injury which kept her from walking or driving. She went to her Primary Care physician and all they prescribed were very pain pills that do not fix the underlying issue. After only two sessions with Dr. Tan she is now able to walk and drive. BTW, she takes Kaiser Permanente Insurance so copays are very affordable.

Dr. Tan is amazing.

I walked in with so much pain and I walked out walking normal my back has not felt this much relief. I was concerned because Miss Lucy placed needles no where near my back and it was great . I totally recommend this place. I will be back again.
Thank you

Lucy was so wonderful to see me same day on a Saturday. She is amicable and has a wonderful bedside manner. Clinic is clean and serene. Needle insertion was quick and painless. My thumb muscle is already feeling so much better from texting and computer work! Thank you Lucy. I can’t wait to come back!

I just had my first acupuncture treatment today and I must say that I enjoyed it. It was painless and relaxing and I’m thinking I’ll be back again soon. I’ll also be referring friends and family as well.

Excellent service.
Went here for back issues.
Came out feeling great.
I will be returning for follow ups.
Highly recommend if your in need of being pain free.

Traci P. Carmichael, CA 3/23/2018

I’ve had back pain since 1999. My doctor basically medicated me for years. I’m now trying to get off the pain meds and the pain got to unmanageable levels.

After only 2 treatments I’m now off the opiates and only take over the counter ibuprofen and Tylenol. I plan on continuing acupuncture until I don’t even need those. Thank you so much! If you’re wondering if acupuncture does work! It’s worth a try isn’t it?

Lissa B. Roseville, CA 12/8/2017

Dr. Tan is a miracle worker! I’ve been having anxiety symptoms for the past few months and I wanted to try a more natural way of dealing with it. I’ve never tried acupuncture before but now I’m a convert. This one session already left me feeling more calm and in control. I’m booking at least 2 more sessions. She’s really nice and is very attentive to your issues. I highly recommend if you have any sort of anxiety or pain related issues to give acupuncture a try.

I dealt with extreme pain and stiffness in my knees and ankles due to an infection. I was bed ridden for several weeks, hoping to see some form of improvement only to be disappointed every morning. I sought out Eastern medicine for the first time, found Lucy, and started my sessions. With one session, I was able to gain more movement than I’ve had in awhile. By the third visit, I was able to somewhat walk (with crutches) for short distances. Lucy is a miracle worker.  I can’t thank her enough. She allowed me to have a fighting chance to return to my life.

After reading amazing reviews and knowing she takes my medical insurance I decided to give her a try.

Let’s just say I’ll be seeing her every week.  I originally went in because I was having knee pain due to an injury a couple days prior to this visit. I have absolutely no idea if it’s a placebo affect but I doubt it. My knee is doing 70% better after 1 TREATMENT.

Lindsey C.  Downtown, Sacramento, CA.   11/4/2016

It was my first time exploring this Eastern alternative medicine…and I am hooked! Broke my dominant hand and have had arthritis ever since. Topicals and narcotics are not my favorites and I needed pain relief. Within moments I had relief and the pain stayed away for weeks! I’m ready for my next sticking. Painless too!

Crissie H.,  Citrus Heights, CA.   10/5/2016

I absolutely love love going to see Lucy, She is very compassionate and understanding and extremely knowledgeable…. I went to see her as skeptical as ever… and wella her magic expertise I’am in less pain……

Susan O., Roseville, CA.  10/13/2016

I went to see Lucy at Oriental Acupuncture for sciatica.  She was very professional and understood my problem right away.  I am very pleased with the results that I got from my first treatment and am looking forward to the next treatment when I am hopeful that all of my pain will be gone.  Also, her availability to get you in for appointment is really good now. I talked to Lucy early this morning about getting in for an appointment and by 11:00 a.m. I was having my treatment.

Kenneth T., Roseville, CA. 10/3/2016

Lucy Tan has been treating me for my balance issues and lower back pain with very good results.  Her office is very clean and comfortable creating a relaxing environment.  Lucy is very knowledgeable and listens to your concerns and recommends appropriate  treatment.  I will continue to visit her for acupuncture treatment.

Rebecca S., Roseville, CA.  8/8/2016

I was having terrific back pain and spasms for about a week.  Medications were not helping the situation.  So, late one Friday afternoon, I called Lucy Tan to see if she was able to see me  the next morning.  She listened to me when I described my situation and then scheduled me for early the next morning.
After one treatment, I experienced some immediate relief.  After the second treatment, three days later, I had great relief.  After the third treatment, I had no spasms and could move without pain.  How good that felt!
I found Lucy to be very knowledgeable, professional and personable.  Would not hesitate to seek out her help with other health issues.  I have already recommended her to my friends and family members.

Julie O., Citrus Heights, CA.  6/15/2016

Best Acupuncturist ever! Dr Lucy Tan is a very knowledgeable, kind and positive person. I have seen her for various health issues and she has always HELPED me. Problems that include  things like anxiety, allergies, ankle sprains and even premenopausal problems. I have been her patient for the past 18months and I will continue to see her for any health issue that may come up.

Dan C., Citrus Heights, CA.  3/26/2016

I had numbness in my hand and went in to get treatment.  Not only was Lucy Tan thorough,  she really helped my problem.  I appreciate the way she takes her time and pays attention to how you are feeling.  I will be back and we’ll recommend her to family and friends.

Dan O., Sacramento, CA.  3/7/2016

I have visited Oriental Acupuncture several times since it opened. Lucy is an accomplished Acupuncturist who is concerned about her patient’s health.  She is a very good listener and applies that knowledge into effective treatment. I have diabetic nerve pain in my feet and do not want the complications associated with taking more and more pain killer pills.  After trying many acupuncture practitioners, I have found Lucy to be the best for me. She is honest, her pricing is fair, and she is very knowledgeable about health issues and treatments. I plan to go back again.

Jim L., Roseville, CA.  8/23/2015

I visited this clinic yesterday for my neck pain.
LAC Lucy is so nice and professional. She asked me where I feel pain, and then, she started to give me treatment about one hour. Once done, I feel immediately 80% of my pain has gone.  What a relief !  My neck pain has bothered me for months.  I have made an appointment, and want to visit this clinic again.
